Wicking Garden Beds in the St George & Bayside Area

Across St George and Bayside — from Rockdale, Brighton-Le-Sands and Sans Souci on the water to Kingsgrove, Bexley and Carlton inland — UrbanVeg builds premium self-watering wicking beds for family backyards that get used hard and need to keep producing. These are practical, food-growing gardens, and a wicking bed is the easiest way to keep one thriving without a daily watering routine.

Why St George and Bayside gardens grow better with a wicking bed

Gardens here sit on a real mix of ground — sandy, free-draining soil close to Botany Bay and heavier clay further in — and the summers near the water swing between humid and bone-dry.  Both extremes make conventional beds hard work: the sandy ground loses water fast, the clay bakes hard and holds it in the wrong places.  A wicking bed sidesteps the lot.  It gives the plants a clean, controlled growing mix and a reservoir that keeps moisture even from below, so the garden stays productive whether the week has been wet or dry, and a busy family does not have to water every evening to keep it alive.

Premium beds built for years of family use

A backyard veggie bed in a family garden takes a beating, so we build ours to last.  Every UrbanVeg bed is made from kiln-dried, vegetable-grade timber coloured with an iron-oxide preservative — no CCA, arsenic or chrome near the food — fully lined over a proper sub-irrigation system.  The result is a solid, safe, good-looking bed the kids can help in and that still stands strong years down the track.

What we build across St George and Bayside

We have installed single beds, taller beds for easier access, and multi-bed setups across the area, from Kingsgrove and Bexley North to Sans Souci, Carlton and Rockdale.  Whether you want one productive bed for the family or a small kitchen garden along the back fence, we size it to your yard and the way you want to use it.

Suburbs we cover

Rockdale, Brighton-Le-Sands, Sans Souci, Ramsgate, Sandringham, Monterey, Kogarah, Carlton, Bexley, Bexley North, Kingsgrove, Hurstville, Penshurst, Beverly Hills and Mortdale.

St George and Bayside wicking bed FAQs

Do wicking beds work in heavier clay soil?

Yes.  The bed sits above your soil with its own growing mix and reservoir, so heavy clay underneath is no problem — you get a clean, even root zone regardless of what is below.

Are they safe for kids to garden in?

Completely.  We use only vegetable-safe timber preservatives and a food-safe liner, with no sharp edges — they are made for family use.

Can you build more than one bed?

Of course — from a single bed to a small kitchen garden.  Tell us your space and what you would like to grow and we will map out the best layout.
