Wicking Garden Beds in Regional NSW
Beyond Sydney, the two big challenges are water and distance — and UrbanVeg is built to handle both. From Gunnedah and the North West to Armidale and the New England, we prefabricate beds in our Miranda workshop and travel to install them, so a quality self-watering wicking garden is within reach for larger jobs wherever you are in regional NSW.

Why regional NSW gardens grow better with a wicking bed
Out in the regions the growing conditions are tougher and the margins thinner: long dry spells, big swings between hot days and cold nights, and properties where daily watering simply is not practical. A wicking bed is made for exactly that. Its reservoir lets a garden go weeks between waterings, drawing moisture up to the roots as needed, which suits a working property, a busy school or anyone who cannot be at the garden every day. In hot, dry country the water savings are real, and the garden keeps producing through stretches that would finish a conventional bed.
Premium beds built to last in a tough climate
Regional weather is hard on a garden, so we build for the long haul. Every UrbanVeg bed is made from kiln-dried, vegetable-grade timber with an iron-oxide preservative — no CCA, arsenic or chrome near your food — fully lined over a sub-irrigation base, and built solid to handle heat, frost and time. We prefabricate in Miranda and bring the beds to you, ready to install.
What we build across regional NSW
Much of our larger and school work is out of town. We have built 16 beds at Gunnedah South Public School and gardens across the North West and New England, from single home beds to big multi-bed schoolyard projects. Whether it is a home, a school or a community garden, we will plan the job around your site and the travel.
Areas we cover
Gunnedah, Tamworth, Armidale, Uralla and the wider North West and New England, plus other regional NSW towns by arrangement for sizeable jobs — get in touch and we will let you know.
Regional NSW wicking bed FAQs
Is it worth UrbanVeg travelling to install in my town?
Often yes, especially for multi-bed or school jobs. We prefabricate in Miranda and build the travel into the quote — tell us your location and what you need and we will let you know.
How long can a regional garden go without watering?
Weeks, depending on the season — the reservoir is what makes a wicking bed so well suited to dry country and properties that cannot water daily.
Do you build for regional schools?
We do — we recently built 16 new beds at Gunnedah South as part of a repeat visit, and 4 in Mudgee. Get in touch with your numbers and any grant timeline and we will tailor it.
