These wheeled planters are perfect for a balcony, and even a pair can keep a small family in herbs and salad. This gentleman was keen to grow his own vegetables and to help his daughter develop a green thumb as she learns about gardening, so we added wheels to make the planters easy to move for cleaning or to chase the sun.

In the apartments of Zetland and Green Square, a balcony is often the only growing space available, and a self-watering planter makes it really count. Each holds its water in a reservoir underneath and wicks it up to the roots, so there's no daily watering to remember and nothing dries out over a hot weekend — a big help on an exposed, windy balcony where pots usually struggle.

Being mobile, they can follow the light through the day or roll aside when the balcony's needed for something else. Compact but productive, they're an easy way to get kids growing and picking their own food in an apartment setting.

We build from kiln-dried, vegetable-grade timber with a food-safe finish, made to hold up to years of sun and wind on an exposed balcony. If you've a balcony, courtyard or rooftop in Zetland, Waterloo or elsewhere across the Eastern Suburbs you'd like to turn into a little self-watering garden, we'd love to help you set it up.
