Eastwood Height Public School got a sustainability grant to install 3 large wicking beds for educational purposes.

These will not require watering over the school holidays, and act as a valuable teaching aid.

They added in some vermi-composters to allow worms to self-fertilise the beds with scraps discarded when harvesting.

Schools across the North Shore are turning to raised beds as living classrooms, and a sustainability grant put three large ones to good use at this Eastwood school. They give students a hands-on lesson in growing, composting and nutrition, with real vegetables to harvest.
